Twas the week before Xmas…The three wise women of Babushka prepare to devour buckets of prawns, lead the annual airing of grievances and serve up their fruitcake that brings all the boys to the yard.

After performing to rapturous applause at Queensland Cabaret Festival & Melbourne Cabaret Festival, cabaret trio Babushka wants to jingle those bells, sing festive tunes and celebrate all that is Grinchy about the jolly season. If your favourite things about Xmas are Die Hard, leftover ham on Boxing Day and drinking through family gatherings, this is your new Yuletide tradition.  

Joined by jazz trio Jake Bristow and the Baby Cheeses, be entertained by this wickedly funny cabaret that features iconic Xmas music of The Pogues and Spinal Tap through to your favourite carols. So don your ugly jumpers, grab the nutcracker and get ready to regift last year’s dodgy presents with Babushka.

Accessibility Note

Metro Arts' New Benner Theatre is wheelchair accessible. About Babushka
Boasting slick vocals, quirky comedy and unapologetic sass, this Matilda Award-winning cabaret trio takes on everything from Mozart to Guns’n’Roses with dangerously delectable arrangements.
 
Babushka combines The Andrews Sisters, a splash of Kate Bush and serves it on ice with a wink of Absolutely Fabulous. Babushka dares you to play along as they fearlessly fuse opera, jazz, cabaret and pop with vocal acrobatics, scrumptious harmonies and compelling story-telling in ‘a real postmodern mash up’.
 
Over the past five years, Babushka has toured extensively with previous shows, The Babushka Book Club and Happily Ever After, to sell-out houses and critical acclaim, including performances at Queensland Cabaret Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Melbourne Cabaret Festival.

When not performing in Babushka, Alicia, Laura and Judy are in-demand artists in their own right, having performed with Opera Queensland, Circa, Queensland Theatre, Sydney Theatre Company, shake & stir theatre co and Women in Voice.
Little Match Productions

Based in Brisbane, Little Match Productions is driven to explore our collective humanity via its most primal and intrinsically expressive media, the voice. We are insatiably curious to share and hear others’ voices, both literally and figuratively, by creating and producing high quality new Australian musical performance.

We are passionate about the core principle behind all our works for children: tuning-in little ears to quality music. In rigorous collaboration with diverse artists, we have established a reputation for our unique ability to present classical repertoire and techniques in contemporary contexts. The foundation for each new work is ethical story-telling with integrity and contemporary relevance, high quality new music, ability to tour regionally and engagement of female creatives.

Over the past five years, Little Match has presented work at Brisbane Festival, Queensland Music Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Festival 2021, Queensland Cabaret Festival, Wonderland Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Anywhere Theatre Festival.
