Interview with the Artist – Joshua Taliani

Joshua Taliani leads our Vogue Fem dance class, a highlight of DANCE24

Joshua is a First Nations (Bidjara/Kullali/ Wakka Wakka) Italian Artist and Performer. His signature style is heavy on open choreography, infused with the art form of vogue (a part of the Ballroom culture). Working across genres, from street dance to dance theatre, Joshua’s practice has been grounded in hip-hop but his experience includes contemporary dance.

Joshua is also the Father of the trailblazing House of Alexander – a leader in the queer BIPOC community which continues the legacy of Harlem’s Ballroom culture of creating space for, and helping to nurture, Trans and queer BIPOC.

WHAT CAN PARTICIPANTS EXPECT FROM THE WORKSHOP/CLASS?

Joshua Taliani (JT): To learn the art form of vogue and feel their inner femininity

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF AS A PERFORMER/CREATIVE?

JT: As a creative I’m an open book to be honest I appreciate learning so much about what art forms hold and as a performer I’m quite high energy and very raw.

WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION AND WHY?

JT: Myself cause I have to pick myself up a lot and accept the bad of me as well as the good to push through the way I do.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR AS PART OF DANCE24?

JT: To be in a space to teach and create and environment for people to be accepted.

HOW DID YOU DISCOVER YOUR LOVE FOR DANCE?

JT: Off of a documentary that was all about release

VOGUE FEM is presented as part of DANCE24, an experimental dance festival from 22 MAY – 1 JUNE 2024.
