Title:DEVELOPING COMIC FEMALE CHARACTERS
Waters and Boyle is an investigation of various ideas to test a creative comic relationship and to find the right audience/ context for these ideas. They have some initial concepts, and they want to know what they can get away with, and for whom. Ideas in this development include:
- Doing it for the dads. A strictly R Rated dark theatrical comedy that boldly confronts the divide between good and bad taste. A kids’ show that’s not a kids’ show but is for … the dads.
- Lazy Susan and Bain Marie – roll out a piece of sticky RSL carpet, hang a portrait of the Queen and enjoy a new spin on Morning Melodies, complete with chocolate wheels, bingo and karaoke. There’s a Casio to accompany Marie’s classic tunes and some casino floor-show dancing by Susan. The not so subtle rivalry between them culminates in a dodgy song and dance-off.
- Training tips for new mothers – parenting has been compared to torture techniques that the CIA have previously banned. We’re interested in exploring these torture techniques through comedy and seeing how we can present them theatrically.
They play in the space between stand up comedy/sketch and theatre. Waters and Boyle is a debase production.
