Initially developed during Damian’s honours research at QUT, this second creative development of Unplugged (working title), is something of a re-set and renewed beginning, starting with the central image of the work: the act of surfacing, breathless, through a body of water.
New elements of audio and visual media will help focus the re-development the work’s narrative through-lines. Focusing on finding new life and fresh air in an old tale, this exploration will draw on ancient Greek and Roman accounts of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, feeding an original story of a girl attempting to resurrect her drowned brother under an abandoned Queenslander.
The exploration of the work’s core metaphor will occur through a series of task-based scenarios, with experiments involving collisions of a cast iron bath, filing cabinets, reams of paper, and a splash of water.
Unplugged (working title) was originally developed in 2016 by Luke Goss, Skye Heales, Holly Rooth and Damian Tatum.
