Building on her past somatic experience inquiries, Leena Riethmuller presents an exhibition of new performance and sculptural works that turn the gallery into a space for reflection on the individual body. Her works are a chance to critique ways we may currently engage with our bodies, offering suggestions as to how we might connect differently. The exhibition encourages viewer involvement through active participation or observation and reflection – whichever feels more comfortable to you.
Leena’s work examines contemporary bodily trends associated with appearance, fitness, food, hygiene and appropriate bodily behaviour. She is interested in the social and moral implications of how prevailing ideas affect the contextual and subjective nature of bodily experiences
