Simone Hine is an artist and curator. Her art practice incorporates video, performance and installation. Drawing on the history of cinema and television, Hine utilises the pictorial traditional of art in order to generate new narratives from familiar popular cultural tropes. She has exhibited widely throughout Australia and internationally, including exhibitions at the Australian Experimental Art Foundation (Adelaide), George Paton Gallery (Melbourne), Queensland Art Gallery (Brisbane) and Careof (Milan). Hine has presented research at conferences in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. She has recently completed a PhD in the School of Culture and Communication at the University of Melbourne. In collaboration with Kyle Weise, Hine was the Founding Co-Director of Beam Contemporary, a commercial gallery in Melbourne, which operated from 2010 to 2014. She is also a Founding Co-Director of Screen Space, a not-for-profit gallery in Melbourne since 2010.
