Katherine has a long history in theatre having worked as an actor, director and theatre reviewer before starting playwriting. In 2013, she was awarded a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Queensland for her thesis on biographical playwriting.
As a practitioner, Katherine is interested in the collaborative process and in creating new works that explore large themes (she is currently exploring themes of belonging and the unreliability of memory). Her passion is for heightened work that utilises the skills of the performers and creatives to immerse an audience in the magic of theatre.
Katherine’s work has been recognised nationally and internationally with a short-listing for the Patrick White Playwrights’ Award (2013), a finalist in the Queensland Premier’s Drama Award (2008/09), a Playlab/Varuna Fellowship (2007), a long listing in the International Student Playscript Competition (2011), and selection for the National Play Festival (2010).
